| First day on the ice! The plane from Kangerlussuaq landed on the ice
at 11.02 a.m. 20 minutes later radiocontact from the camp was established.
At midnight the generator was running, the vehicles had been taken out
of the garages and the snowmelter was working. At the arrival the temperature
was -25°C outside and -13°C inside. |

| Everything is almost as it was left behind last year, although the
ceiling in the trench is gradually being
pressed downwards, due to the weight of the new snow. |

| Nice weather, but cold. |

| Equipments are being unpacked, and installed in the trench. |

| All the practical works has to be taken care of. Tents are being put
up, the skiway is being prepared, ..... |

| The flagline with the flags of all
participating countries has been put up again. |

| Preparations are running in order to start the drilling and the processing
of the ice core. |

| On saturdays there is a tradition at NGRIP. Most people find time for
a shower during the day, and in the evening everybody has to "dress up",
i.e. fleece pants and jackets are being exchanged with shirt and tie or
a dress or skirt for the saturday evening party. |

| The different vehicles need maintaining and the skiway has to be groomed
every day in oder to be prepared for the heavy planes. However the skiway
is quite good for this time of the season, there hasn't been too much new
snow this winter. |

| Summer is approaching, and it's getting warmer .... |

| A new core storage has been built. In these storage the ice cores will
be stored, before being logged, processed, and eventually sent back to
Copenhagen. |
