Dear Colleagues, You have all been appointed convenors for Symposia which will take place at the IUGG General Assembly in Perugia, July 2-13, 2007. I hope this does not come as a surprise to you: I hope you have been appropriately asked in advance. I have prepared a preliminary time-schedule for your information, see http://www.gfy.ku.dk/~iag/IAG_program_07_rev4.htm The program is posted on the web: http://www.iugg2007Perugia.it where you find descriptions of the different symposia. There is however one major error on the web-site. The two Symposia JGS004 and JGS005 have been merged into one symposium, JGS004. You will as convenors have access to the web-site, so that you can follow the development in terms of submitted abstracts, for example, see below. "Here is a brief explanation of how the system has been designed. There are some different levels of access to the web site: 1st Level) access without the account (username & password). The visitor can see all the information about the IUGG and the Scientific Program but can not submit an abstract, either, obviously , to see submitted abstracts 2nd Level) access with the account (username & password). The visitor can also submit and modify abstracts, but can not see other submitted abstracts 3rd Level) access with the account (username & password). and an extra Conveners code to be insert only once in the session detail web page (see below how to have the code). Conveners can manage all the abstracts of their session. Approve, reject, write to the author. They can not see the abstracts of other sessions. It is important that you (conveners) register as to have the Username & Password, after that you have to send an e-mail to conveners@iugg2007perugia.it in order to request the code for the 3rd Level of access (in the e-mail, please, specify the session code and if you are convener or co-conveners). In the reply e-mail that the conveners will receive there will be more details on how to use the password. The system has been tested, but If someone of you find some bugs, please contact Arnaldo (arnaldo.pierleoni@irpi.cnr.it ) and Salvatore Grimaldi (both) because we will solve fast the problem." Your role as convenors will be the usual one (prepare program, accept or reject abstracts, appoint session chairpersons etc), but also to recommend to me who should receive travel support. IAG is responsible for 5 special IAG Symposia and 4 inter-association symposia. I hope to have funds available for a total of 30 travel grants in the range 700 USD - 1500 USD. The support should primarily be given to participants from developing countries or to young scientists. In exceptional cases key-speakers may receive support. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact me (or the Italian organizers) if you have any questions. Yours sincerely C.C.Tscherning, IAG Secretary General
